-- Mrs. Alice Ludlow was born in Fountain County, Indiana August 20, 1858 and departed this life at her home in Mellott, Indiana Monday evening Nov 23, 1936 at 7:30 o'clock being 78 year 3 months and 3 days old, thus having passed the allotted time of "three score years and ten," by a little more than 8 years. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin LaBaw, one of the most prominent and highly respected pioneer families of this county. In early girlhood she united with the Osborn Prairie Christian Church but in recent years transferred her membership tot he Nazarene Church of Hillsboro. During her long and useful life she was a deveoted Christian and at the end of the way she sustained by an unfaltering trust in Him who said, "In my Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. I got to prepare a place for you," Mrs. Lulow was an unusual character in the sick room of others, always willing to minister to neighbors and friends in their afflictions and sorrows. It is worthy to note that although this remarkable woman was "acquainted with grief," she remained tranquil and sweet amid the disappointments and cares of lifes changeful scenes. With wonderful patience she triumphed over severe material resverses. When the weary feet came to the last mile of the way, with the woven lines in her face, her eyes grew dim, the toiling hands yielded,w ithout complaint, she suffered intensely but in the evening time she peacefully entered into the "rest which remains for the people of God." During the year of 1876 she was married to James French to this union one son, Elmer was born. Mr. French preceded her in death after which she married Henry Douglas, a kind husband and father, who had been bereft of his first companion, leaving four motherless children, who shared the blessings of this newfounded home. To Mr. and Mrs. Douglas four children were born of whom one daughter died in infancy. The husband also preceded his wife in death several years ago and she married Charles Ludlow on March 31, 1931, who survives. Other surviving members are: the sons, Elmer French of Mace; Homer Douglas of Covington; Everett Douglas of Kingman and Walter Douglas of Danville, Illinois. There are also 24 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one brother, Alonzo LaBaw of Auburn, indiana. The funeral services were held in the Osborn Prarie Church, Wednesday, November 25 at 1:30 p.m. the Rev. Charles E. Howard of Sterling officiating. Interment was made int he cemetery adjacent to the church.

Mrs. Alice Ludlow, age 78, expired at her home at Mellott at 7:30 o'clock Monday night after being confined to her bed for 3 months with heart trouble. Born in Fountain County, August 20, 1858, Mrs. Ludlow was a life-long resident of the vicinity. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan LaBaw. Mrs. Ludlow was married 3 times. Two husbands, James French and Henry Douglas preceded her in death. Charles Ludlow to whom she was married on March 31, 1931 survives. The deceased was a member of the Nazarene Church of HIllsboro. Surviving in addition tot he husband are four sons, Elmer French of Mace, Ind; Walter Douglas, Danville, Ill; Homer Douglas near Stone Bluff and Everett Douglas, Kingman. Funeral services were held at the Osborn Prairie Church at 1 o'clock Wed afternoon. Burial in the cemetery adjoining the church.
